Policy on Community Notices
Background
One of the roles of the public library is the provision of community information.
Information may be provided to the library by individuals, community organisations, governments (Federal, State and Local) and by commercial organisations. This information is sometimes of a political or religious nature and sometimes deals with controversial social issues.

Policy
Library notice boards may be used to display information, notices and advertising that will be of benefit to the community in general, with the following exceptions:
Information, notices or advertising that could imply that Council endorses a particular political party or political philosophy
Information, notices or advertising that could imply that Council endorses a particular religion or religious philosophy
Information, notices or advertising that could imply that Council endorses a particular stance on a controversial social issue
Information, notices or advertising that are for private enterprise or profit making purposes. There may be instances whereby certain information, notices and advertising are considered important community information but which are also aimed at making a profit (for example, notices promoting plays and concerts) and these notices may be displayed.
In all the above cases the Branch Librarian/ Assistant Librarian/ Community Librarian has the authority to determine which information, notices or advertising should be displayed, or should not be displayed, on a Library Service notice board. If a ratepayer does not accept the decision of the Branch Librarian/Assistant Librarian/ Community Librarian then the matter should be passed to the Manager Library Services for arbitration.
