Policy on Internet Access
Background
Internet access enables the City of Rockingham Information and Library Service to provide information beyond the confines of its own collections. The Internet is a global electronic network which allows library users to access ideas, information and commentary from around the world.

Statement of Intent
This policy provides guidelines aimed at ensuring equitable access to the Internet and in ensuring that library users are aware of the conditions entailed in making use of such access.

Policy

Due to high demand it is necessary to book access to the Internet.
- The Library Service does not monitor, and has no control over, the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its validity, quality, accuracy or relevance.
- Parents/legal guardians are responsible for monitoring access to the Internet for children under the age of 18.
- Users of the Internet will sign an Internet Users Agreement which states, amongst other things, that the Internet user will not access explicit, offensive or obscene material, will not advertise, sell or purchase any illegal items, and will not solicit, respond to or discuss any illegal actions.
- Material found on the Internet may be protected by copyright and users of the Internet are requested to obey the Copyright Regulations which are located near the Internet access computers.
- Charges are made for printing.
- Due to the problem of computer viruses no outside disks, including software programmes, may be used in Library Service computers.
- Library users must not attempt to by-pass the security provisions of Library Service software and must not attempt to modify settings of Library Service hardware.
- Library Service staff will answer basic questions relating to use of the Internet but some users may require other training.
